So i'm watching Poker After Dark the cash game and Ellie is on with 5 other players all good but very tight with the exteption of Peter "Viffer" , the rest of the line are what wer consider to be tight players like Howard Leaderer, Phill Paak, Greg Muller and an online up and commng star Mr. Bouske ( i hope I spelt your name right) . he was a disaster at the start of his carrer lost money bu thten found his place in the amazing area of NLHE sit n Go's. There Mr. Bouske make a good living. he style at this cash game was very tight and at one point i thougt the players were just running over him seeing he was down some money.
Thankfully Ellie was there, if i was to play in any cash game of choice, ELY would be one of the primary picks to sit at my table. Action Ely.... and Sammy Farha ...so iam watching and then of course it happens Muller gets dealt KK in middle position and Ely get AQ off. Muller limps which i loved this play becasue it gives Ely the opportunity to think that he has not much of a hand and he will raise him, only to be faced with a re-raise..But Ely is smart enough to know thta Muller is tight nad may be up to something. But Ely being Ely accepted the raise and came over the top on Muller and put him all in, thinking what? Middle pair making him even money ? Anyway he called and found out that he was in a bad place. they ran it twice and Ely's strong agressive nature cost him a pot of $207K
WHat would you have done in the position against a tight player. I mean Ely knows that AQoff is not a premium hand and after getting his raises, he got re-raised, even if he put him on middle pair pocket 99's or better he could have just called to see if he that A hit's the board? I think i would have just called. We have to consoder the equity invested, Ely's stack and Mullers stack. Muller was low stacked with only about 68,200 remaining Ely had a profit at that time of over 200K so to put him all in didn't seem like much more of a call for Ely PF becaseu he musy have figured Muller was shipp'n' it nayway post flop. so maybe the play implied odds becaseu he knew Muller was putting in all in anyway so why not do it now and maybe run it twice to get half back? Don't know
either way, i learn soemthing new each time, and this time I learned that Ely will always live up to his agressive style and we love you for that buddy, but when playing against a relativly tight player like Muller, if he limps and you rasie to find out where you are, and you get re-raised, unless youare holding a monster or like Ely harda monstere stack..don't call, he will almsot always have you beat PF...
That's the Poker Wold for you....
